Reproducible methodology

Exact root files, exact commits, no model judgment.

The first 100 public repositories returned by GitHub repository search sorted by stars descending for stars:>1.

Every repository is pinned to the default-branch commit resolved during the snapshot.

Adoption means an exact, case-sensitive AGENTS.md file exists at the repository root at the pinned commit.

Line counts, Markdown headings, command-shaped lines, and three bounded guidance regexes are computed without model judgment.

Limits: Nested AGENTS.md files are not counted when the root file is absent. GitHub stars and the top-100 boundary change over time; this is a dated snapshot, not a live ranking. Keyword signals show that guidance text is present, not that it is correct, complete, or followed. Repository popularity is not a representative sample of all software projects.
Reproduce or cite the dataset on GitHubCollector source, integrity checks, citation metadata, and a versioned JSON and CSV release.
